January 18, 2006 —A major electrical power transmission system is expanding its use of the Tactical Software Serial/IP Redirector for asset monitoring on its $3 billion high-voltage electricity transmission network.
The Tactical Software Serial/IP COM Port Redirector is being deployed to Windows-based application servers at 60 sites to provide virtual COM port access to over 5,000 protection relays, battery systems, and other devices. Each site typically has six facilities, each with a serial device server connected to 16 devices.
Automated data collection software running as Windows services use the Serial/IP ports to collect data for monitoring purposes. Additionally, interactive applications use Serial/IP ports to acquire data for operators investigating power system events.
