August 23, 2006 — Tactical today began shipping version 4.7 of its product line, adding support for Windows XP x64 and Windows Server 2003 x64.
Starting with version 4.7, Tactical Software setup programs detect 64-bit environments and automatically install native 64-bit kernel drivers. Additionally, for the Serial/IP redirector, installation on a 64-bit platform includes both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the Serial/IP ActiveX API, an optional software interface that allows applications to reconfigure the Serial/IP redirector on-the-fly without using its control panel.
"We have been very satisfied with the stability and performance of the 64-bit version of our product line," commented Liisa Walsh, president of Tactical Software LLC. "We have successfully extended our technology to the 64-bit Windows operating systems," Walsh added, "and with support for up to 4,096 virtual COM ports, our redirectors target scaled-up applications that use large populations of networked devices."
