Using Port Groups
Creating Port Groups
New port groups may be added, each having its own access, settings, authentication, and dialing restrictions. A port group will contain one or more shared COM ports.
To add a port group, open the TacServe Tool and expand it in the console tree. Click Port Groups. In the Action menu, click Add New Group. The Add New Port Group Properties window will appear. Specify the shared COM ports for the group.
When TacServe is being installed for the first time, the installer will create an empty port group named Group 1. If TacServe is being installed as an upgrade, then the current settings will be preserved and will appear in Group 1.
To open the properties window for a port group, open the TacServe Tool and expand it in the console tree. Click Port Groups, and expand it in the console tree. Click a port group name to select it. In the Action menu, click Properties; or right-click the port group name and click Properties.
Selecting Shared COM ports
Open the Properties Window for the port group. Click Select to get the Select Ports dialog. Select the COM ports to be included in this port group and click OK. The Select Ports dialog will show a list of all COM ports for local hardware and virtual ports on the server computer. It excludes COM ports that are already in other TacServe port groups, unless Allow overlapping port groups is selected in Server Options.
To delete a port group, click a port group name to select it. In the Action menu, click Delete. Click OK to confirm. When a port group is deleted, all of the current sessions in that group will be terminated.
